 Street lighting goes festive

  Landscape Lighting

A festive lighting project has been completed using Tokistar light string supplied by Lightscape Projects.

The scheme resulted from a competition run by the City of Edinburgh to manufacture, install and maintain a festive lighting scheme for Prince’s Street. The £300,000 project was for a scheme which could be dismantled and used at different locations over five years. David Spacey, at consulting engineers Blyth & Blyth, teamed up
with Gavin Fraser, of lighting  design consultancy Jonathan Speirs and Associates, to win the competition. The electrical contractor was
Arthur McKay.

Around 1,500 x 15 metre lengths of SL-GR-8 Tokistar light strings were supplied to illuminate the trees ranging in height from 5 to 20 metres. Each lightstring has 75 x 0.9w / 24v lamps attached  to it at 200mm spacing. The lamps have a 12,000 hour average lamp life and can only be removed by using a special tool for added security.
The SL series of lightstrings from Tokistar Lighting Systems is a commercial-grade treelighting system designed to last year on year.

The strings are wired  in parallel so single lamp failures do not affect others in the chain. The lightstrings, which can be cut on site as required, are secured to branches using supplied  vinyl ties. The company also supplied specially designed transformers complete with waterproof plugs and sockets on both primary and secondary sides to facilitate speedy installation and removal.
