 | Light Projects has completed a world class lighting scheme for The Stone Forest Tourist Park in Yunnan, China which features lakes and impressive Karst rock formations.
Designed by lighting consultant Benny Ball, the multimillion-pound scheme is an impressive feat of skilled lighting design, coupled with state-of-the-art light technology to create a unique colourful display on the grandest scale. From the front lake which alone has 106,000 watts of underwater lighting; to fibre optics, 2,000 watt Robotic Frances Marine xenon searchlights and 6,000 watt xenon projectors, to project images onto the mountainside, colours, styles and fittings were chosen to complement each other and to add to the overall effect.
Due to the altitude, a lot of the fittings were made from solid brass to cope with the extreme weather conditions. It was also imperative that the park respected the delicate eco-structure of the area and |
 | had a minimal impact on the natural environment.
As a result the lighting design team carefully considered the most effective fittings to use and those which were both powerful and discreet. Fittings from KIM Lighting, Lumiscape Lighting from Australia, light nets from Tokistar, fibre optics from Roblon and a large number of Light Projects’ own products including the M11, M16 and 1,000-watt Mission fittings complete with colour were all used in this scheme. The lights were controlled by 4 separate Strand dimmer rooms and one central control room.
The visitor experience is divided into five areas including three lakes, a garden and a theatre. There are two shows of lasers and video projection which were designed by LCI who were also the overall designers on the park. The combination of intelligent lighting including star lights in weatherproof mac domes, laser, sound, pyrotechnics and flame effects; together with choreographed dancing waters all add together to create a very impressive and dramatic park.
Technical literature about the comprehensive range of fittings is available from The Light Projects Group – including KIM, Tokistar, Roblon and Intralux are available on (tel: 020 7231 8282).
