Exterior Lighting - Light Projects Group

  Lighting up a landmark

CFL Colour Changers, manufactured by the Light Projects Group, are now lighting up the University of Newcastle’s new landmark Devonshire Building.

Specified by Apex Electrical Solutions, the stunning visual display was the result of a competition run by M&E Contractor SES for local schools. This was to design an innovative lighting sequence to illuminate the six-storey £12 million building and to focus on its twin concepts of environmental harmony and sustainability.

The new generation LEDs featured in the CFL Colour Changer are not only extremely powerful (approximately 40 times more light than that of conventional LEDs), but also have extremely long life (50,000hours) and low lumen depreciation. In addition, they contain no glass or mercury and are both shock and vibration resistant.

The integral driver unit mixes light output from each LED creating strong saturated colours without the losses associated with conventional filtered light.

Full DMX Control provides huge flexibility including  0 – 100% dimming, switch on at any level and pulse switching.

Light output from each LED is concentrated using a  newly developed columator device. This is a small prism of PMMA plastic which is placed over  individual LED’s to focus the beam into a 10°  spread
